For the marble cake, separate the eggs and beat the yolks with sugar and vanilla sugar until foamy. Add oil, water and lemon zest and mix well.

Mix baking powder and flour and sift over the yolk mixture. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold in together with the flour.

Divide the mixture in half. Melt the chocolate and stir into one half. Pour the dark and light mixture alternately into a greased and floured baking pan.

Bake at 160 °C for about 1 hour.

Preparation Tip:

The marble cake can also be prepared as a gugelhupf.
